Dubinskyi initiates the assignment of the status of a nature reserve to the Dnipro islands of Kyiv to save them from development

MP Aleksandr Dubinskyi took the initiative to assign the status of a nature reserve to all the Dnipro islands within the Kyiv city limit. He filed a formal request to President Volodymyr Zelenskyi in this regard.

According to Art. 53 of the Law "On the Nature Reserve Fund of Ukraine" it is the head of state that makes decisions on the creation of nature reserves, national nature parks, as well as territories and objects of the nature reserve fund of national importance.

Dubinskyi expects that the new status will save the green areas of the capital from destructive development and keep Kyiv green. At the moment, they are threatened with disastrous development, which the media constantly report about with reference to the draft General Plan of Kyiv: according to it, the construction of a cableway between Khreshchaty Park and Trukhanov Island is planned in the coming years.

“With this in mind, there is an urgent need to provide proper protection to all the Dnipro islands within the Kyiv city limits, as for the territories that have environmental, aesthetic, and recreational value. That is, the nature reserve needs to be created,” it is stated in the official message of MP Dubinskyi to President Zelenskyi.
